Update on Return to Play 8/20/20

We are moving forward with the first step from NYSAHA. Associations are allowed to sanction practices as long as they follow the guidelines set by the state government. You will find the letter from NYSAHA and the Sports and Recreation Summary Guidance attached to this email which further explains some of the details in what is acceptable and what is not acceptable.

The State Government has not approved games in the state or travel outside of the state for games. NYSAHA and USA Hockey are currently working with the Department of Health to get us back to playing competitive ice hockey. I know this is frustrating as other states around us begin to get back to action. However, if associations are violating this policy, the association and the teams will be sanctioned. NYSAHA is making progress, and if there are issues within our state, it will only delay the re-opening of competitive games for New York teams. NYSAHA is pushing for a return to games as soon as possible. There is an expectation for a state tournament and national tournament at the end of the season.

An important piece to all of this is tryouts and signings. Teams are allowed to begin signing players effective immediately regardless of an on-ice tryout. If you are interested in becoming a Bison, please contact the coach of the team. The contact information can be found in the link below. If you are currently on a Bison team, expect to hear from your coach soon in regards to practices. Most teams will begin the week of September 7.

North Buffalo Rink Safety

The North Buffalo Rink has been operating since July 13 with strict safety protocols. I encourage anyone coming to the North Buffalo Rink to review these policies and procedures to understand what is expected of patrons and what you can expect from the rink in return.

North Buffalo Rink Safety Plan

We will be receiving information on Nichols Ice Arena soon. We will pass the safety information along to families when we receive it.

We look forward to welcoming you back to hockey.
